Christmas, New Year and some random thoughts

All major changes are like death. You can't see to the other side until you are there. (from Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton)

Another solar year ends. The Earth rotates back to where it was a year ago, but does not pause to see. So, must we?

Copenhagen didn't turn out to be hope-nhagen, after all. I think it's a nice turn to things. Hopefully things will go from bad to worse, and humanity will be wiped off the face of the planet. Once Homo sapiens sapiens is extinct, things might get up and running again. Thankfully, we won't be seeing another 'intelligent' species for a couple of billenia. Which means many merry Christmases for the Earth to come.

Art AttacK!!

My latest:

CANAA

This is an illustration of the wedding at Canaa, specifically the miracle of turning water into wine. It reminds me of a cartoon. But a picture is a picture, whatever be the name that you call it, and I don't quite believe in the compartmentalization of the creative.

ANGRY, GENERAL?

I think the title is quite clear about this one. Inspired, perhaps, by the many Roman generals in Asterix.Asterix is into its fiftieth year, incidentally.

CORPUS CHRISTI

The 'body of Christ' it is. Just a few lines.

FLUTE

I love this picture. Though the flautist's face reminds me of H.D.G.A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, a.k.a Srila Prabhupada, founder of ISKCON.

MACAVITY THE MYSTERY CAT

Macavity's a mystery cat, he's called the hidden paw
For he's the master criminal who can defy the law...
-T.S.Eliot

FARMER
Name says it all, again. An endangered species.

THE QUESTION

About the thousand unsaid, unwritten and unheard questions that pass between eyes.

IN CONCERT

A Carnatic Classical concert.

All these pictures were drawn in MS Paint.

Why am I not Picasso?

I am an artist
but I am not the best.
I cannot beat
even half of the rest.
Though i draw and paint
with lots of zest,
It all comes to nothin',
It's all just a jest...
Why am I not Picasso?
Why am I not the best?

Anna Karenina

Recently I finished reading my first 'Russian' novel(in English, of course). I have heard many people, especially writers, express an opinion that the Russian novel is the novel, and other works that go by that name are not even justified in wanting a comparison. A couple of years back I tried reading The Idiot by Dostoevsky, but it led nowhere. I painfully struggled through half the book before giving up. Anna, however, was quite a different story.

When I saw, for the first time, the 800-page hardbound volume, I wondered whether this book will make another Idiot out of me. But it was easy reading, and simply superb literature. I am no critic; I have nothing else to say except that i loved it. Tolstoy has coloured the gigantic canvas with every conceivable human emotion, thought and action. A real genius, that man.

Though it did surprise me that it was a tale about Anna Arkadyevna Karenina's love affair outside marriage. But love is love, whether inside marriage or not.
